Elbows, tees and couplings define the shape of the system, and every extra joint is a potential leak — so a layout with fewer joints is better on both counts. Fittings come in the same material as the pipe (PPR with PPR, UPVC with UPVC), and tees with a female brass insert are what connect plastic pipework to brass mixers and valves. The key quality point on a brass tee is that the insert is properly pressed in and does not spin.
