Choosing Motors & Pumps

A booster pump solves weak pressure, and the choice depends on the number of floors and the run length rather than horsepower alone. A self-priming pump can draw from a ground tank, and an automatic pressure switch starts it when a tap opens and stops it when it closes, so no manual operation is needed. An oversized pump wastes electricity and makes noise; an undersized one runs constantly and fails early.
